Bus and Train Services

Heathrow is one of Britain's largest airport so there are often long queues at immigration, but once you pass this you will find Heathrow an easy airport to get out of. The main destination for overseas travellers to Heathrow is London (20 miles east of the airport) and there are three main methods of travel to central London by public transport:

  1. By Taxi: Taxis are the most expensive but also the most convenient method if you have a lot of heavy luggage. The trip can take from 40 to 60 minutes, depending on levels of traffic.
  2. By Bus/Coach: There is an excellent bus service between Heathrow and central London run by National Express. The main destination is Victoria Bus Station. Buses run around every 20 minutes, and the modest fare can be paid at the ticket office or ticket machine or you can save money by booking in advance on-line using the National Express website. The usual luggage allowance is permitted. If you are travelling to a Heathrow Hotel you can also take advantage of the Heathrow Hoppa service, which will deliver you to the Hotel door for about half the cost of a Taxi fare.
  3. By Train: This is the quickest and cheapest way of travelling from Heathrow to London, but it is feasible only if you have light luggage. Although you can wheel your luggage in a trolley right to the station platform at Heathrow, at the other end of the trip you will have to carry it and probably need to struggle up a crowded escalator with it. Trains run every 30 minutes from Heathrow Station to London Paddington. Tel: 0845 6786975.
